The Vice Chair of Research will provide leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight of the department’s research programs and activities with a focus on the growth and sustainability of the department’s research portfolio. Duties and Responsibilities: The Vice Chair of Research will provide guidance and mentorship to all levels of faculty; recruit and retain high potential research faculty; support and expand student involvement in research at all levels in partnership with the Vice Chair of Education; develop strategies to enhance communication and collaboration in partnership with the department Chair; and create an environment that values and supports research programs. This position will serve as a liaison between departmental leadership, research leaders at the School of Medicine, and research leaders across campus to identify best practices and additional opportunities for multidisciplinary interactions. As an Academic Senate faculty member responsibilities include: clinical service in the area of specialty, as applicable; teaching to medical students, residents, and fellows; conducting and producing scholarly work, clinical/translational research; a record of peer-reviewed publications; success in obtaining extramural funding, as applicable; and University service. • MD, PhD, or MD/PhD with at least 5 years of experience in successful leadership of research programs. For MD applicants’ additional requirements include, board-certification and fellowship training as applicable to specialty and if subspecialty trained and possess or be eligible for a California Medical License.
