We are looking for a PhD candidate in the South Slavic Studies with excellent research ideas. We offer you the opportunity to work intensively on your research project in the field of South Slavic Literature and Culture at the largest German speaking Slavic Department, to gather teaching experience and conduct independent research work in the inspiring environment of the University of Vienna. Applicants ideally have finished their studies not too long ago and are currently developing an innovative research project that they can apply with. Extent of Employment: 30 hours/week
Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: §48 VwGr. B1 Grundstufe (praedoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.

Job Description: 

Participation in research, teaching and administration: 
- Research for own PhD project 
- Candidates are expected to sign a doctoral thesis agreement within 12-18 months 
- Participation in research projects / research studies 
- Participation in publications / academic articles / presentations 
- Participation in teaching and independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement 
- Supervision of students 
- Involvement in the organisation of meetings, conferences, symposiums 
- Involvement in the department administration as well as in teaching and research administration 

- MA degree in Slavic Literary Studies (preferably) with a South Slavic focus 
- Alternatively MA degree in Theatre/Film Studies with a South Slavic focus 
- Innovative research proposal for a PhD project in South Slavic Literatures and/or Cultures
- High ability to express yourself both orally and in writing
- Excellent command of written and spoken BCS, English and (if possible) German
