Tenancy Support and Wellbeing Officer

This is a newly established post due to Unipol expanding its tenancy support resource to reflect both a greater investment in this area and a growth in its portfolio associated with housing a larger number of first year students.

A Tenancy Support and Wellbeing Coordinator develops and leads the Residents Assistants (known as “RAs”) team, who live and work in Unipol’s accommodation, to ensure that they fulfil their administrative and housing management duties while promoting tenant wellbeing and providing a coordinated and innovative social programme throughout the year. The current RA team consists of around 26 staff (increasing to 29 in September 2021).

You will also be responsible for maintaining, operating and reviewing all systems in respect of tenancy support including: inter-tenant friction, anti-social behaviour, the effects of crime or fire, mental health and serious illness and for servicing Unipol's network of referral agencies in respect of these areas of responsibility within the designated areas of the portfolio.

You can be based in either Nottingham or Leeds, but in any event it will be necessary to work in Nottingham for two days a week and Leeds for two days a week so some paid commuting will be necessary. In quieter periods, homeworking can take place by arrangement with the Deputy Chief Executive and in the immediate post-Covid environment, 50% of working is currently taking place from home to maintain social distancing in Unipol’s offices. It is essential that the successful candidate should have a full valid driving licence, have frequent access to their own motor transport, and be willing to drive their own transport to fulfil the duties of the post. A mileage allowance is paid for work related business.

This role reports directly to the Deputy Chief Executive who they will meet with regularly.

The post involves the regular use of mediation and evidence of mediation experience and training, together with any qualification in that area would be a significant advantage as would any training or qualification based offering mental first aid. The post requires flexibility, initiative and considerable organisation of own workload, under the guidance of the Deputy Chief Executive. Certain health and safety routines carry a high level of personal responsibility and must be carried out with accuracy and rigour.

Because the post involves working with students under the age of 18, a satisfactory DBS check (enhanced disclosure procedure) is required to undertake the duties of the post.

All those working in Unipol are jointly employed by Unipol and the University of Leeds. The post will involve some limited late night working (normally no later than 7.00pm however this will be 9.00pm for the welcoming meals) and weekend work at specific times of the year, together with the need to undertake cover and call-out arrangements over some public holidays when arrangements for dealing with emergencies have to be made by the Housing Manager - Operations.
