The Clinical School wishes to appoint a Clinical Sub-Dean for Student Welfare. This is a five-year fixed term role, with the possibility of reappointment for further five year period thereafter. The weekly commitment is three Programmed Activities (paid at the appropriate rate with respect to seniority) which must be explicit in the individual's job plan. All candidates must have full registration with the GMC, and hold a license to practice, and would usually hold a substantive NHS appointment at Consultant, GP Principal or equivalent level.

The Clinical Sub Dean for Student Welfare is a member of the Clinical School Deanery Team. Taking a lead in student welfare, they will also have a wider role in medical education in Cambridge, with the opportunity to oversee all aspects of the three programmes, the Standard Clinical Course, the Cambridge Graduate Course in Medicine and the MBPhD Programme. They will work with and alongside other individuals and groups concerned with the welfare and pastoral support of students, including the Clinical School Deputy Lead for Student Welfare, College tutorial teams, the Clinical School's Pastoral Pool, the Medical and Veterinary Students' Progress Panel, the University Occupational Health Service, the Clinical Student Mental Health Service and the University Disability Resource Service.

Applicants will have a strong commitment to medical education, and will have demonstrated enthusiasm for and dedication to effective teaching, assessment and pastoral support. Applicants will be flexible and organised, and will be committed to understanding and contributing to general course organisation and development, and specifically to the pastoral support structures available to Cambridge medical students. An educational qualification, or willingness to undertake one, would be desirable.

This appointment requires an Honorary Clinical Contract. This is an integrated appointment between the University and relevant NHS Trust / Body. You will therefore also be issued with an Honorary Clinical Contract by the NHS Trust / Body. You should be aware that if your contract with the NHS Trust / Body is terminated your employment with the University will be terminated, and vice versa.
