The Opportunity

Join our dynamic team as a Senior Technical Officer in the Faculty of Engineering. You will ensure delivery of class-leading laboratory facility management, providing expert and technical research support to stakeholders, contributing to the research outcomes of Professor Liming Dai’s Center of Advanced Science and Engineering for Carbon in the School of Chemical Engineering

  • Salary: $95, 462- $103, 318 + 17% superannuation & Annual Leave loading
  • Fixed-term- 3-year contract 
  • Full time- 35hr/per week 
  • Location: Kensington Campus – Sydney, Australia

RESPONSIBILITIES

Specific responsibilities for this role include:

  • Maintenance of the research facility laboratories including the provision of training and support in the use of equipment. This will include CVD, Chemical, Nano and PC2 laboratories and all analytical equipment such as sputtering devices, desktop SEM, RAM SEM, CVD furnaces, GC, and characterisation equipment.
  • Identify, analyse and innovate the conceptualisation, design, and successful conduct of projects using judgement and initiative and the use of considerable theoretical and technical skills.
  • Maintenance of research and analytical equipment such as Sputtering devices, Desk Top SEM, Raman SEM, CVD furnaces GC, GCMS, FTIR, AA, UV Vis and characterisation equipment in the laboratory
  • Contribute to the assessment of potential laboratory equipment and prepare documentation for purchasing of consumables, HMDG equipment.
  • Monitor the safe running of the laboratory equipment and develop and implement accurate safety documentation and protocols for laboratory and equipment operation to comply with University
  • and associated facilities statutory policies, guidelines and procedures.
  • Maintain the asset register and monitor relevant consumables and equipment to ensure they are on hand for research purposes in a timely manner, ensuring appropriate record keeping.
  • Develop and implement a routine preventative maintenance schedule for laboratory plant and equipment and arrange other repairs and maintenance on an ad hoc basis as required.
  • Manage Hazardous Materials and Dangerous Goods (HMDG) according to UNSW and School procedures. Cooperate with all health and safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the health and safety of yourself or others.
