Position Title:

Senior Manager Investments (FIN4B)

Position Summary:


Reporting to the Director, Investments, the Senior Manager, Investments will oversee the management of the McGill University Pension Plan and McGill Endowment fund making recommendations and taking decisions on tactical and strategic asset allocation and on rebalancing of investments, as well as leading investment managers’ selection and monitoring of all funds.

Primary Responsibilities:


    Prepare and present investment recommendations to Investment Committees.

    Lead new search of external investment managers across all asset classes.

    On-going monitoring and detailed analysis of investment portfolios and investment managers.

    Manage and oversee on-boarding, implementation, transition and termination of investment managers and mandates.

    Conduct and oversee due diligence and negotiate legal contracts with investment managers.

    Manage and monitor the risk budget of the Pension Plan and of the Endowment fund; develop techniques to measure the funds' risk and their potential impact on contributions and maximize performance by allocating assets between asset classes and investment managers.

    Lead the development of internal analysis tools used by the Office of Investments.

    Maintain and build knowledge and understanding of investment related matters, including investment industry trends and changes in the investment environment.


Minimum Education & Experience:


Undergraduate degree


Eight (8) years' related experience

Other Qualifying Skills And/Or Abilities:

Strong demonstrated knowledge of financial markets, investments and pension plans (i.e. tactical and strategic asset allocation, rebalancing of investments, etc.). Strong knowledge of the pooled funds and the investment managers businesses. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to develop and maintain business relations with both internal and external stakeholders at all levels. Ability to efficiently summarize complex information. Ability to work effectively and efficiently under tight deadlines. Ability to collaborate and work efficiently in team. Demonstrated ability to undertake in-depth analysis of highly complex issues and assess their impact. Demonstrated ability to work in a computerized environment and superior proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint. Heightened accuracy and attention to detail.
