SENIOR DEVELOPMENT OFFICER, Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL), to contribute to J-PAL’s mission of reducing poverty by ensuring that policy is informed by scientific evidence by leading and supporting execution of its donor engagement and stewardship strategies. Will develop and deliver a fund-raising strategy to establish sustainable funding streams to expand J-PAL’s efforts to translate research into action worldwide. Responsibilities include working with J-PAL leadership to lead development and execution of a multi-year strategic plan for fund-raising and donor engagement; taking ownership of relationship management for several existing individual/organizational donors; liaising with Resource Development and the School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences to leverage joint fund-raising efforts; tracking funding opportunities and managing the development of proposals to philanthropic foundations and other international funders; building/managing systems to support donor engagement; providing input to short- and long-term strategic and operational planning; developing engaging outreach content for existing and potential donors; and leading internal trainings.

Job Requirements


REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree; at least seven years’ experience fund-raising for academic research or international development activities from a range of funding streams, including philanthropic foundations and high net worth individuals; knowledge and understanding of the priorities of major funders in the international development field, including foundations and governments; experience developing, generating buy-in for, and executing on an organizational fund-raising strategy, ideally at a large institution; experience working across internal departments/teams to manage a multi-stakeholder initiative/campaign; ability to work independently to achieve agreed-upon strategic goals; and excellent organizational, project management, communication, interpersonal, writing, and presentation skills.
