Scientific Research Project Manager (Fixed Term)

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to provide high-level scientific research support for the Head of the Department of Medicine, and to promote the Department's mission, achievements and communications.

This is an exciting key position in the core team in Medicine, reporting directly to the Head of Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Preparing major research funding proposals.
  • Coordinating and facilitating the public communication of science for the Department.
  • Providing key support in scientific writing, co-ordination and preparation of reports, funding applications and publicity materials.
  • Reporting and communicating with a wide range of stakeholders including establishing a world-class web-portal for the Department, organising scientific events and interfacing with the University and the NHS.
  • Involvement in other Departmental projects as they arise.
  • Deputising where necessary for the Head of Department on relevant project committees.

The Department of Medicine is one of the largest in the Clinical School, comprising 12 Divisions, each involved in research related to human disease. Principal investigators are a mix of clinical and non-clinical scientists. The Department has 400+ staff (including 28 Professors) and holds research grants totalling in excess of £145m (annual expenditure around £30 million). The Department operates from numerous sites around the Addenbrooke's Biomedical Campus and is expanding in size and scope, including the recently opened Cambridge Institute of Therapeutic Immunology and Infectious Diseases (CITIID).

The successful post holder will hold a degree in a relevant biological or scientific field and have extensive experience in scientific writing and editing.
