Scientific Coordinator at Crowther Lab50%-80%, Zurich, fixed-termWe are seeking a Scientific Coordinator to join Crowther Lab’s Operations Group to support a wide variety of initiatives connected to Crowther Lab’s scientific research. Crowther Lab is based at ETH Zurich and seeks to strengthen the scientific foundation for the protection and restoration of nature and address climate change. Crowther Lab is a scientific advisor to the World Economic Forum’s 1t.org and the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. Project backgroundThe mission of Crowther Lab’s Operations Group is to build a bridge between the Lab’s scientific research and conservation and restoration efforts on the ground. For example, through the creation, in 2020, of Restor – a global data platform enabling and accelerating ecological restoration around the world, with a current network of over 130,000 project sites. The Lab is now working on a variety of new projects to assess and monitor biodiversity, as well as inform emerging policy initiatives that aim to move us towards a more nature-positive world. Job descriptionYou will be responsible for the smooth running of a variety of projects undertaken by Crowther Lab. Specifically, the Scientific Coordinator will be responsible for the smooth running of a variety of internal and external projects. Specifically the role will include:
Your profileExcellent project management skills, a proactive nature, the ability to write reports, produce documentation with good presentation, learn quickly, network and be resourceful. We look for a highly-motivated candidate with a background in environmental science, with at least some basic experience in GIS and/or data science. The role will require multitasking across various projects with a cross-functional team. You should be able to work collaboratively and have a good grasp of both field and remote sensing data collection and curation. You should be skilled at managing communication with scientisits, restoration practitioners / NGOs and non-scientists. The work will absolutely require a passion for research and ecology and an appreciation of its role in conservation efforts around the world. Excellent oral and written skills in English are required. An ability to work with specialists with different areas of expertise, and act as a representative of the Lab in external meetings / calls to represent our science in a straightforward, compelling and impactful way. You will have a Masters or PhD level university degree. You should have a track record of publishing written articles / thought leadership content / successful grant applications. You will be employed on an annual contract with potential to renew based on funding and performance.
