Research Support Officer (Academic Study Co-ordinator), Cancer Research @UCC and Clinical Research Facility

Position summary

The position will be a shared position between the HRB Clinical Research Facility at UCC and the HRB UCC Cancer Trials Group.

The CRF at UCC (CRF-UCC) was established to promote excellence in the design, safe conduct and analysis of patient-focused research. It provides the necessary space. expertise and equipment to allow medical professionals to work at the very cutting edge of clinical research. The HRB CRF-UCC work closely with the UCC Cancer Trials Group at multiple levels.

The recently funded HRB UCC Cancer Trials Group will bring together oncology clinical trials units at Cork University Hospital (CUH), University Hospital Waterford (UHW) and the long-standing partner unit at the Bons Secours Cork Cancer Center; in partnership with the HRB Clinical Research Facility in Cork (CRF-C) and University College Cork (UCC). The Cluster will develop an efficient and coordinated cancer clinical trials infrastructure regionally which can “provide Irish patients access to a diverse portfolio of high-quality, safe and compliant cancer clinical trials”. UCC Cluster Sites have been in operation for close to two decades, serving a geographically diverse population of 1.2 million in the South of Ireland. Our broad portfolio encompasses phase 1-3 therapeutic trials in haematologic/solid malignancies, radiation therapy and surgery; including academic collaborative trials via Cancer Trials Ireland, and industry trials, with a developing portfolio of investigator-initiated trials (IITs).

A high calibre and experienced Research Support Officer (Academic Study Co-ordinator) will be key to support the development of academic grant applications to national and international funding bodies and the conduct of investigator-led studies (Work Package 3, HRB Cancer Trials grant). We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated person with high levels of initiative. The candidate will be capable of working independently, while under the supervision of the Co-Principal Investigators. The candidate should have excellent communication, organisational, planning and interpersonal skills. Experience in coordination in clinical/translational research is essential. Research experience in cancer research desirable.
The successful candidate will work closely with Professor Eustace and Professor Connolly, and their wider team of (PIs, clinical trials site managers, research nurses and clinical trials coordinators, finance manager); and interface closely with the corporate offices of UCC (Research Support Services, Research Finance, HR and UCC Sponsors Office) as well as national organizations (Cancer Trials Ireland and National Clinical Trials Office).

The interviews are to be held in early July, with a prospective start date for this post in early August.

Post Duration: 8 months

Salary: €57,000 p.a. (Personal Rate)
