Research Support Officer, Institute for Social Science in the 21st Century (ISS21)

0.5 FTE, 24 Months, Fixed-term, Part-time Post

Position summary

The Institute for Social Sciences in the 21st century (ISS21) is an interdisciplinary research institute for the social sciences in UCC, which seeks to build, sustain and enhance research on social, economic and cultural issues shaping Ireland during the 21st century. The Institute hosts a number of European and nationally-funded research projects addressing key societal challenges. It now seeks to recruit a part-time Research Support Officer (RSO) to support its work delivering a component of a major new initiative in UCC, the European University of Post-Industrial Cities (UNIC).

Designed to develop long term European strategic cooperation in teaching, learning and research, UNIC is a 3 year ERASMUS+ funded, European University pilot focused on exploring how 8 partner universities across Europe can respond to the challenges of post-industrial cities, and issues of diversity and inclusion in higher education (see https://www.ucc.ie/en/unic/). The Research Support Officer will support the Institute’s work in developing the establishment of a ‘Superdiversity Academy’ as part of UNIC and exploring ways in which higher education can respond to, and support, increasingly diverse student populations. The Research Support Officer will work with a team of staff within the Institute, to develop a range of activities including guidelines on the ‘superdiverse classroom’, training and knowledge exchange activities, as well as contributing to the academic underpinning of the project. As part of this, they will also need to liaise with other units within the University involved in the UNIC initiative including the UCC Access Team and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Unit.
