Research Officer

Would you like to be part of a team supporting research capability and capacity building amongst nurses and midwives in the NHS? Do you have experience in both quantitative and qualitative research methods and excellent academic writing skills? Are you a good communicator with the ability to interact with a range of stakeholders across multiple organisations?

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a highly motivated and innovative team at the NIHR Clinical Research Network’s National Coordinating Centre. This new role is based in the Nursing & Midwifery Office within the NIHR Clinical Research Network to support the evaluation of the NIHR 70@70 Senior Nurse and Midwife Leader Programme. You will be responsible for conducting the evaluation of years 2 and 3 of the programme; this will involve skills in quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis, as well as the production of an interim and a final report to the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), which will report on the findings of the evaluation.

The NIHR 70@70 Programme is a three year programme, funded by the DHSC, running between May 2019-22. Its aim is to realise the largely untapped, potential for senior nurses and midwives to increase research capacity and capability, support the development of future research leaders and contribute to a number of key NIHR priorities. In doing so, nurses and midwives can directly inform, implement and deliver on national healthcare priorities. The 70@70 programme recognises the need for nurses and midwives to be provided with time and resources to focus on healthcare research in their local area and at a national level, as a means of increasing their research capacity, improving patient care outcomes and demonstrating research leadership within the multidisciplinary care team.

You will be required to conduct and report on the programme evaluation during its second and third years. You will require skills in quantitative and qualitative research, excellent communication and time management skills, a high level of attention to detail and experience of report writing and writing for publication. You will have an understanding of health and/or social care research and the ability to work with a diverse range of stakeholders at all levels across the Clinical Research Networks (CRN). This is vital for ensuring good communication between the 70@70 cohort members, the 70@70 leadership and coordination teams and other internal and external stakeholders.
