Position summary:
Research Officer – Male Infant Circumcision and Rights-Based Frameworks The Research Officer will work with a multidisciplinary team to synthesise human rights and public health literature on non-therapeutic male infant circumcision. Funded by the Australian Human Rights Institute, this short-term project will document human rights arguments in relation to male infant circumcision and critically evaluate potential public health benefits. The successful candidate will assist the team to conduct a systematic review (following PRISMA guidelines). They will work with the lead investigator, Dr James MacGibbon, to conduct a literature search, set up a local catalogue of literature (eg in Endnote or Excel) and synthesise information across the catalogue. The successful candidate may also have the opportunity to contribute to an academic journal article. The ability to use research databases and to interpret quantitative and qualitative health research will be essential to the role. The Centre for Social Research in Health (CSRH) is based in the Faculty of Arts, Design and Architecture at UNSW Sydney. The Centre makes major contributions to Australia’s response to HIV, viral hepatitis and sexual health and is highly regarded for the quality of its research, its multidisciplinary approach, and its engagement with communities affected by blood borne viruses. The work of the Centre informs policy and practice nationally and internationally. To be successful you will hold Australian working rights or Australian citizenship. Visa sponsorship is not available for casual appointments. Research experience in a field related to public health, social sciences, bioethics or medicine will be highly desirable.
