Duties and Responsibilities

Applications are invited for the position of REF Coordinator within the Office of the Vice- Provost (Research) to support UCL’s submission to Research England’s REF2021 exercise.  The post holder will report to UCL’s REF Manager and the Director of Research Evaluation and will be responsible for delivering our REF submission as per the rules prescribed by Research England and in-line with UCL’s REF strategy, as determined by the REF Strategy Group. The post holder will have primary responsibility for the coordination of REF submissions to one of the four REF main panels.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced administrator looking to develop their skills and to work on a project that is crucial to UCL in maximising our research funding and in evidencing our world-class research profile in league-tables and other areas of public information.

The position is funded until 31st December 2020 in the first instance.

Key Requirements

Candidates are expected to have been educated to degree level, or have substantial relevant experience. 

A broad understanding of the research process, along with a clear understanding of the organisation and culture of a research-intensive university, is essential to undertake this role.



A high level of numeracy, excellent analytical skills and confidence working with large sets of data are vital. Also required are advanced communication skills and the ability to work across academic communities such as by delivering training, writing policy papers and devising internal strategies to support our REF return.
