The Faculty of Science and Engineering (FSE) offers education and research in a wide range of science disciplines, from traditional disciplines such as physics and biology to interdisciplinary disciplines such as artificial intelligence and industrial engineering and management. The Undergraduate School and Graduate School of the faculty provide respectively 13 bachelor degree programmes and 26 master degree programmes to approximately 6.000 students. The faculty’s staff and students come from all over the world and nearly all its degree programmes are in English.

The vacancy concerns the position of research coordinator for the UG Hub of the national Advanced Research Centre Chemical Building Blocks Consortium (ARC CBBC). The coordinator will act as technical support officer and research manager for the groups involved in ARC CBBC within the Stratingh Institute for Chemistry.

The ARC CBBC is a national centre of excellence focusing on long term research in sustainable catalysis, materials and coatings and chemical engineering to provide sustainable solutions to the chemical processes, energy carriers and materials of the future. The Advanced Research Centre is a joined initiative of three universities: the University of Utrecht, the University of Groningen and the University of Eindhoven; four multinational companies: Shell, BASF, AkzoNobel, and Nouryon and the ministries of Economic Affairs and Science and Education (via NWO). The joined industrial-academic programme in the ARC CBBC is funded for 10 years and 37 principle investigators have been selected to join. CBBC has an SB (supervisory board) representing all stakeholders, a SAB (international scientific advisory board) and an EB (executive board) with academic and industrial members, which is chaired by Prof. B.L. Feringa (RUG). The scientific director of CBBC is Prof. B. Weckhuysen (UU).

Job description
The task of the coordinator will include:
• establishing a UG CBBC Hub in close cooperation with the investigators involved (including new scientific staff); setting up facilities for joined academic–industrial projects
• coordinating and managing the research projects of the ARC CBBC in Groningen
• technical support for the groups running CBBC projects
• acquiring and maintaining the specific equipment and labs of the CBBC facilities
• instruction of students, co-workers, and industrial guest researchers in the context of ARC CBBC
• building expertise in technical/research support.

Qualifications
What we expect of you:
• a MSc/PhD degree, preferably in a CBBC related field (coatings, (photo)catalysis, electrochemistry or photoredox catalysis)
• proactive in communication with and support of the academic and industrial collaborators
• experience with various synthetic and analytical equipment/techniques
• competences: cross-cultural sensitivity and strong communication skills, including good command of the English and Dutch languages (spoken and written).

Conditions of employment
We offer you in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities:
• a salary with a minimum of € 2,709 up to a maximum of € 4,274 gross per month (salary scale 10) for a full-time position
• 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% year-end bonus
• an appointment of 1.0 FTE for initially one year; after a positive evaluation during the Result and Development Interview, an extension for a longer period is possible.
