Research Associate in Accounting and Management Unit
Harvard Business School
United States

Duties & Responsibilities

The last few years has seen an explosion of data.  Data is being collected at a staggering rate from a wide range of sources as the scale of digital activities continues to increase.  Looking outward, companies have enormous data on their customers, such as what they buy, how they buy, and where they buy.  Looking inward, they also have data on many of their own activities, from operations to employee engagement. However, value is not created by data alone; it is created by the application of data to achieve a business need.
Under the general direction of a faculty member in the Accounting and Management unit, the Research Associate (RA) will assist with the translation of complex data science concepts into bite-sized learning tools.
The RA may also develop, design and conduct research projects; develop interview structures, questions, and conduct interviews; synthesize, analyze, and produce original written materials for all forms of academic writing; conduct background research, propose and create new cases, and update existing cases or materials for classroom use; use advanced knowledge of qualitative research methodologies to design surveys, experiments or other instruments to manage, extrapolate and analyze research data.
The RA reports directly to faculty supervisor and administrative manager in the Research Staff Services office.  Ideal RA candidates will be comfortable in an environment that requires a high level of independence and intellectual curiosity and the ability to use discretionary judgment.
