The Canary Center at Stanford under the direction of Dr. Sanjiv S. Gambhir (Chair, Department of Radiology), seeks a Protein Engineering Manager to lead the cell and molecular biology shared resource activities and to manage the research staff. The candidate will use current methods in bioinformatics (directs evolution and protein engineering to develop peptides and proteins that bind oncological molecular targets with ultra-high affinity and specificity), and biophysical and bioanalytical chemistry (provides detailed characterization for quality-assured PET radiopharmaceuticals that are prepared for clinical translation). In addition, the Shared Resource Manager will generate positron emission tomography (PET) tracers to be tested for detecting tumors in living subjects. 

The Shared Resource Manager will foster productive collaborations with the Center’s leadership and other shared resource directors across the Center and Stanford. This role will provide the Shared Resource Manager an opportunity to translate their work, learn cutting-edge imaging modalities, and potentially gain experience in filing exploratory Investigational New Drug (eIND) applications with the FDA. 

The Canary Center for Cancer Early Detection is committed to maintaining state-of-the-art protein engineering capabilities. Cell and Molecular Biology, Chemistry, and Proteomics are the three shared resource facilities that provide scientific solutions and support to the center. 

Required Qualifications: 
• PhD in biochemistry, chemistry, molecular biology or related field 
• Highly skilled in using the tools of molecular biology, and proficient in protein expression, quantification, and purification, and molecular biology 
• Knowledgeable with use of bioconjugate chemistry and radiochemical methods 
• Experience in Protein Engineering 
• Highly self-motivated and creative 
• Excellent attention to detail 
• Ability to collaborate across disciplines 
• staff management skills 
• Able to work as part of a team 
• Manuscript preparation and editing experience required 
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills are critical 

Desired Qualifications: 
• Experience with Phage and/or Yeast display library screens is highly desirable 
• A proven track record in scientific management is highly desirable. 
• Experience creating SOP’s and teaching new workflows 
• One or more publication per year in peer-reviewed journals with impact factor of 3 or greater 


This is a fixed term appointment, renewable, 100% FTE
