Project manager (m/f/d) (TV-L E13, 100%) in the field of transformation of agriculture

In the context of the Horizon Europe project trans4num (Transformation for sustainable nutrient supply and management), the Department for Communication and Advisory Services in Rural Areas and the Hohenheim Research Center for Global Food Security and Ecosystems are setting up a dedicated team to implement the Euro-Sino research project. The project will be funded by the European Commission under Horizon Europe for the duration of 48 months, starting 1 Dec 2022.

The research project trans4num aspires to substantiate and broadly promote Nature-based solution innovations (NBS) for sustainable agriculture in Europe and China. In particular, trans4num will focus on nutrient management (bio-based nutrient sources, sustainable crop rotations, optimization of nutrient flows) and will 1) develop a differentiated understanding of NBS potentials for achieving sustainable agricultural practices, 2) study the complexities of applying NBS, 3) develop a dynamic and smart nutrient management tool to support regional decision making for optimum nutrient supply, and 4) assess the (net) impact of technological and social innovations as well as policies related to NBS.

The partners will be organized in 2 parallel consortia in Europe and China, with University of Hohenheim as coordinator of the European consortium.

The project manager will play a central role in the project. Working side-by-side with the project coordinator, the project manager will coordinate the exchanges within the consortium and facilitate the consortium’s overall management in conformity with the Grant Agreement and the Consortium Agreement. These responsibilities include a wide set of tasks related to the organizational, administrative, financial and legal management of the project. Furthermore, the project manager will play a major role in the multi-actor approach, by organizing regional and international events, by implementing of policy dialogues and by contributing to the dissemination activities.

YOUR TASKS

    • Assist the coordinator in the supervision and implementation of the project, and in following the project work plan;
    • Develop and implement project management tools (e.g., procedures, guidelines, templates, collaborative platform);
    • Coordinate the exchanges within the network, facilitating communication between partners i.e. also organize the consortium meeting; and other internal communication measures,
    • Support the partners with the project administrative aspects, particularly in the application of rules and procedures specific to the Horizon Europe;
    • Follow-up the production of deliverables and contribute to the drafting of the activity reports;
    • Budget monitoring (breakdown and transfer of funds, update and follow-up of the budget, internal financial reports, etc.);
    • Coordinate the preparation, consolidation and submission of financial reports;
    • Participate in external communication measures
    • Support the elaboration of the project Data Management Plan and ensure its good implementation.
    • Organize regional and international event for partners and stakeholders
    • Plan and conduct dissemination activities.

YOUR PROFILE

    • Excellent completion of a MSc in agricultural science (or a closely related field);
    • Working knowledge of administrative and financial management (at least 3 years of experience in administrative and financial management of collaborative research projects);
    • Good knowledge and command of project management tools;
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English;
    • Proficiency of Mandarin is highly appreciated, experience in the cooperation with partner from China is a distinct advantage;
    • Experience of multi-actor and interdisciplinary approaches;
    • Strong organizational and communication skills, ability to establish and maintain lasting and constructive formal relationships;
    • Excellent skills of writing and synthesis (work plans, technical reports and other acts and management, ordinary correspondence)

    • Funding is available for 48 months. The project start is planned for 1rst December 2022.
    • The splitting of a full-time position into two part-time jobs is generally possible.
