The organisation

Established in 2009, the Department of Developmental Disability Neuropsychiatry (3DN)’s work contributes substantially to developments in intellectual disability health and mental health. Our mission is to improve health and mental health policy and practice for people with intellectual or developmental disability. There are three main strands of work at 3DN. We Build Capacity through teaching, training, health promotion, development of educational resources and the conduct of other professional activities. We conduct Research with high translational benefit to the disability and health sectors. We provide Consultancy of the highest standard, including providing clinical consultations, sharing expertise and advice, engaging in advocacy and making detailed contributions to policy and legislative reviews.

Why this role matters  

This is an opportunity to manage the roll-out of a tailored palliative care service pilot for people with intellectual disability based within South Western Sydney Local Health District. As the Project Manager (Clinical Research) you will be responsible for the general project management of the pilot.

This includes actively developing and implementing the service pilot by designing the practices and procedures throughout the project’s life cycle. Your work will support the research activities and objectives undertaken by researchers at the Department of Developmental Disability Neuropsychiatry (3DN) by actively engaging with internal and external stakeholders to build relationships and ensure engagement.  You will also be contributing to the preparation of research reports, peer-reviewed publications, presentations and ethics applications.

You will bring your expertise in health service innovation coupled with experience in clinical research or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience in order to provide expert guidance to the design and evaluation of the pilot. Be part of a team utilising research innovation to improve clinical services for people with intellectual disability.

Skills & Expertise:

• Degree or PhD in medicine, nursing or allied health disciplines, registerable in Australia or related discipline with extensive project management experience in clinical research or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience.

• Proven advanced project management experience, with an in-depth understanding of the project life cycle and strategic development delivering projects in the commercial health related field.

• Experience running health service pilot programs.

• Experience in health service design, implementation and clinical services innovation.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail for deliverables produced.

• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.

Desirable skills and experience:

• Formal subspecialty clinical training, or extensive experience in intellectual disability healthcare.

• Experience providing palliative care for people with intellectual disability would be highly regarded.
