Project Manager
Catholic University of Leuven

The Leuven Brain Institute (LBI) unites all neuroscience research at KU Leuven. The goal is to achieve excellence in neuroscience by joining forces to advance our understanding of the human nervous system, both normal and diseased. Together, we strive to generate scientific, societal and clinical impact at an unprecedented scale. Scientifically, the LBI fosters new collaborations and new research lines that span the entire scope of neuroscience, from molecules to behavior and from in vitro systems to patients, to go beyond the state of the art. The LBI enables a creative and stimulating environment, where neuroscientists meet and find inspiration to tackle some of the greatest challenges our society faces today, where new ideas emerge and take form, and new knowledge transforms into action. We believe that through collaboration and interaction we will transform the field of neuroscience. With the support of Opening the Future, the KU Leuven institutional pillar for proactive fundraising of major donations, the LBI and the LKI (Leuven Cancer Institute) are jointly setting up a ‘Core Lab’ around innovative technological platforms to advance neuroscience and oncology research. A spatial multi-omics platform has recently been established and, in the coming months, a data core and a therapeutic exploration platform will also be built.

As a project manager, you help design and conduct ambitious, trans-disciplinary neuroscience research projects leveraging these platforms. Your tasks are:

·      Developing and maintaining a network of all relevant stakeholders within KU Leuven, the University Hospital (UZ Leuven), VIB and external academic and industry partners;

·      Identifying innovative ideas, building collaborations, and draft ambitious research plans;

·      Conducting spatial omics experiments (spatial transcriptomics, mass spectrometry imaging, multiplex imaging) in collaboration with experienced colleagues, and ensuring a smooth project workflow from the reception of the tissue samples to the delivery of analyzed data;

·      Assisting the LBI Chairman and the ‘Core Lab’ Steering Committee in the coordination, integration and support of the scientific and technological research programs;

You report directly to the Chairman of the LBI and to the Core Lab Steering Committee, and work within the “Research Collaboration” and “Single Cell and Microfluidics” Expertise Units of the VIB-KU Leuven Center for Brain and Disease Research. You interact directly with the leaders of the different technology platforms, and with their technical and research staff. You collaborate closely with the projectmanagers of the LBI and LKI.
