Position Summary

The Department of Communicative Sciences and Disorders seeks a Project Director and Research Scientist on NIH-funded research project related to occupational vocal health issues.  Responsible for managing methodologies, coordinating IRB for methodologies, coordinating data collection from multiple sites, cultivating partnerships with schools, supervising undergraduate student workers, conducting data analysis, and writing reports.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

 Research 100%

  • Build relationships with local schools and teacher organizations to collect data (in addition to other high voice use occupational groups)
  • Coordinate IRB approval for projects
  • Lead and coordinate data collection across multiple academic sites
  • Lead and coordinate data collection across multiple voice clinic sites
  • Lead and coordinate data management and analysis (statistical models)
  • Conceptualize reports and larger analyses
  • Supervise students assisting in the research project
  • Travel for reporting/research trips
  • Travel to and speak at conferences

Required Degree

Doctorate -Communication Sciences and Disorders, Speech Pathology, or related field

Minimum Requirements

  • PhD required
  • Speech Pathology degree (clinical training) with significant background in voice disorders
  • Background in occupational risks and epidemiological research
  • Proven ability to obtain both cross-sectional and longitudinal data from a population
  • Proven ability to do statistical modeling and conduct statistical analysis from both cross-sectional and longitudinal datasets with high proficiency in statistical software (e.g. SPSS, R)
  • Proven ability to write scientific articles and give conference presentations
  • Proven ability to design research studies and obtain IRB approval
  • Excellent oral/written communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Excellent supervision and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to set priorities, analyze data and think systematically from both a detailed and a strategic perspective
  • Ability to connect with people from a wide range of backgrounds and communities

  • Background in external funding proposals
