Project Coordinator

Do you want to contribute to better health for all?

Karolinska Institutet, LIME Department

The Department of Learning, Informatics, Management and Ethics (LIME) works in several strategic areas that are important for improving human health. We focus on research, development and education in medical education, ethics, informatics, medical management, statistics and prevention. It is an exciting work environment where research and education are in focus. Read more about LIME here.

The Project

You will be working at the National Centre for Suicide Research and Prevention of Mental Ill-Health (NASP)) with a small team made up of the creators of Youth Aware of Mental health (YAM), a school-based mental health promotion program in which youth explore mental health that has been conducted with more than 60,000 youth in 16 countries. In a new project, the team will continue to center play and to create space for inclusive and youth-led dialogue about well-being and what young people need. The project will explore out-of-school spaces and activities and how these correlate to youth mental health. By investigating leisure time, we hope to bring forward equitable youth initiatives, spaces, and practices in the post-COVID recovery.

Position Summary

We are seeking a Project Coordinator to participate in the development of the above-mentioned project. The position requires a substantial degree of independence and the person in question will work closely with the Project Leaders to develop, coordinate, and implement the project.

The Project Coordinator will perform a variety of complex research tasks, including co-drafting a research proposal, performing literature reviews, assisting with ethics board-related activities, developing interview guides and questionnaires, conducting qualitative interviews and focus groups with youth and youth workers, analyzing qualitative data, and drafting project reports. Coordination activities include convening meetings, coordinating field visits, documenting activities, and maintaining collaborative relationships.

Entry Requirements

This position is an opportunity for an individual who has worked with youth and who has qualitative research experience to further deepen their passion for interdisciplinary engagement and social impact.

We are looking for an individual with a strong background in youth work in an out-of-school-time setting. The candidate should be dedicated to advancing youth perspectives, and have an understanding of and enthusiasm for creating spaces for young people to be their best selves. The individual should have a dedication to elevating overlooked approaches to youth well-being.

A successful candidate for this position has:

  • A Master degree in a pedagogy, social science, health, or youth-studies related field and at least one year of related work experience.
  • Experience working with diverse populations of youth.
  • Project management skills and previous experience in design, implementation, and management of research projects.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English and Swedish.
  • Strong writing skills: an ability to fulfill copywriting, copy-editing, and proof-reading deadlines independently.
  • Experience conducting interviews, focus groups, and/or doing field work.
  • The ability to work both independently and in a collaborative setting.
  • Curiosity and an aptitude to learn a wide variety of areas quickly; a passion for going beyond your area of expertise.
  • Excellent analytic and communication skills.
  • Ability to juggle competing priorities and demands.

Desired qualifications

  • Extensive experience working with youth outside the school setting.
  • Familiarity with pedagogic non-hierarchical strategies and youth-led projects.
  • Familiarity with community-based research.
  • Ability to travel internationally.
  • And finally, trust young people to reflect freely and make choices that will benefit their lives and their mental health.
