Program Manager for Molecular Theory and Simulation Standford University United States

The Molecular Theory and Simulation Program (Program) at Stanford is a vibrant subarea in the Department of Chemistry in which the faculty and students conduct computational and theoretical molecular research. The Program is comprised of a variety of research contracts and grants that are highly interdisciplinary and impactful.

 

The Program is led by a senior faculty member and includes contributions from 35-45 students, postdoctoral scholars, research associates and visiting researchers, as well as a number of faculty members and hundreds of computers. The Program leads several large multi-Principal Investigator (PI) projects and collaborations with faculty across Stanford, the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory and other external institutions.

 

The Program seeks a Program Manager with broad experience supporting large, complex research groups to work under the direction of a faculty director to implement and administer the Program’s vision, strategy and goals. The Manager will serve as the single point of contact for the Program and will be responsible for all aspects of its efficient operation. The job duties of this role are all encompassing, and the Manager will perform duties ranging from, but not limited to, processing transactional level activities to managing complex grants and contracts and hosting large events to high levels of engagement, collaboration, and interaction with faculty, students, postdoctoral scholars, and staff from multiple disciplines across Stanford and SLAC. The Manager will represent the Program internally and externally. 

 

The Manager must exercise good judgment in all aspects of the role and will be required to become knowledgeable about internal policies and systems specific to Stanford, SLAC and the agencies involved in funding research activities within the Program. As the Program is a fast paced, dynamic environment, the Manager will need to successfully navigate changing priorities and will be expected to work with a high degree of discretion and confidentiality under minimum supervision. This position may be required to work outside normal business hours and may manage staff employees of the University.

CORE DUTIES*:
• Lead the planning and operations for programs or functions that have significant business, regulatory and/or technical challenges requiring subject matter expertise.
• Evaluate programs or functions, policies and procedures. Identify issues, and develop alternative solutions which may include changes to programs, policies and procedures.
• Review and analyze trends to advise and develop recommendations to achieve or modify the goals of the program or function.
• Represent the program or function within the department, unit or school by committing resources and provide information and/or training. Represent the program or function at the university level and/or to external/internal stakeholders and constituencies.
• Manage and contribute to the development of outreach strategy that may include relationship development, communications and compliance.
• May develop and/or oversee budgets; manage finances including monitoring, analyzing, forecasting, and reporting.
• Assess training needs and may develop associated training.
• May direct and/or supervise staff.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:


Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and five years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.
