Life Sciences Innovation Hub

The Integrated Management Plan to Accelerate Clinical Trials (IMPACT) is a new program designed to facilitate the efficient conduct of high quality clinical trials through an integrated, multi-step process.


The Life Sciences Innovation Hub (LSI Hub) at the University of Calgary is a one-of-a-kind facility located within University Research Park. The LSI Hub offers access to space (office, wet and dry labs, prototype maker space), entrepreneurial and business development programming, mentorship, and technical expertise for research-intensive startups and developing companies.


The 127,000 square foot facility is operated by Innovate Calgary on behalf of the University of Calgary and its partners. This new initiative has created a number of exciting employment opportunities for talented individuals in the areas of Life Sciences and Engineering laboratory management, building and facilities management, startup support and office support.

We are currently accepting applications for the following position:



Working with the IMPACT Clinical Director and leading a team of 4-8 individuals (experts in grant writing, Q&A, budgeting, regulatory procedures, documentation, and marketing and communications), the Director will be a leader in developing and establishing IMPACT as a preferred partner for new ventures seeking to conduct clinical trials. The IMPACT team will develop strategic partnerships with the University of Calgary, the Cummings School of Medicine (CSM), and the Creative Destruction Lab – Rockies (CDL-Rockies). The Director will have responsibilities in all phases of office operations, including business planning, product design, industry partnering and customer relations.



  • Lead a collaborative strategic initiative between CDL-Rockies (business development) and the CSM to overcome common barriers in a venture’s life cycle;

  • Create a seamless path from product concept to regulatory application by integrating existing CSM services (trials design, support, and execution) with new ones (regulatory, writing, and reporting), via experienced and dedicated expert navigators;

  • Develop a unique and comprehensive approach to supporting startups through a tailored business plan and targeted research plan;

  • Train and manage the IMPACT team;

  • Develop clinical strategies and plans for startup ventures.



The Director is a leader in the Calgary health and life sciences ecosystem, working closely with internal staff, clinicians, researchers, entrepreneurs, inventors, senior university administrators, and investors.

  • Ability to prioritize and monitor multiple competing deadlines; and excellent interpersonal skills to work with a diverse constituency of higher education, government, and business personnel;

  • Self-motivated and open-minded;

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.



  • Developing and translating novel early technologies from early concepts, through rapid proof of concept, development and implementation in the clinic;

  • Collaborating with patients, caregivers, providers and payers to identify and execute on unique market opportunities in multiple health markets;

  • Executing on business plans and fundraising strategies to support medical devices and combination product development;

  • Feasibility and development phases of multiple medical products to validate clinical utility, safety, efficacy, and manufacturability.



  • Ph.D./MBA; and

  • Concurrent with, or in addition to, management experience.
