Position description

UCLA’s Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences, in conjunction with the Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior, is accepting applications for the position of Director of Residency Training. This position is for a full-time Clinician-Educator at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or full Professor.

The UCLA Psychiatry residency training program includes 59 residents and is located in metropolitan Los Angeles with major training sites at the Stewart and Lynda Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA, the West Los Angeles VA Healthcare Center, the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health, and numerous community-based organizations. Our psychiatric hospital and the UCLA Health System as a whole are both widely respected for clinical and research excellence and have been recognized by the U.S. News & World Report as being among the highest-ranked health systems on the West Coast (top 5 nationally) and the No. 1 hospital for psychiatry on the West Coast.

The mission of the UCLA Psychiatry Residency Training Program is to train outstanding psychiatrists who will lead the field as clinicians, researchers, educators, and leaders in improving the lives of people impacted by mental illness at the level of the individual, communities, and society. The responsibilities of the Program Director include:
• Developing and implementing the educational mission for the residency training program
• Overseeing the educational curriculum and maintaining program compliance with the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) standards including curriculum development, trainee evaluation and feedback, policy development and implementation, monitoring duty hours and trainee wellness, and assessing the clinical competency of each trainee.
• Leading a mission-driven recruitment of residents into the residency training program each year.
• Collaborating with clinical and research division leaders to embed high-quality and innovative clinical and scholarly activities in the residency training program.

Qualifications:
• At the time of application, candidates must have an MD or related degree and be board certified in general psychiatry and must have or be eligible for a California medical license or equivalent certification/permit as determined by the Medical Board.
• Three (3) or more years of psychiatry education program leadership, administration, and teaching in an ACGME accredited training programs.
• Demonstration of outstanding academic accomplishments and trajectory which may include innovative educational program development, excellence in teaching, clinical leadership, or research.
