Position description

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of California, Santa Barbara invites applications for a qualified Education Outreach Coordinator for the SciTrek/Biotech science outreach program. The person in this position will be supporting the refinement and expansion of the SciTrek program to include Santa Barbara City College (SBCC). This joint project between UCSB and SBCC will allow the candidate to work at both campuses; first at UCSB to learn the SciTrek program and then with SBCC to help establish the program. They will oversee the implementation and expansion of SciTrek modules at local Santa Barbara schools, focusing on 2nd through 6th grade classes. This will involve running the program in elementary classrooms, recruiting student volunteers, working with teachers and helping with grant administration.
The department is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through teaching and service. The posting will remain open until filled.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

BA or BS degree or equivalent at time of application.

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)
  • A minimum of 2 years experience scheduling and coordinating meetings
  • A minimum of 2 years experience using Excel
Preferred qualifications
  • College degree with past work experience in education or working with a nonprofit or outreach program
  • A science background and/or experience in education is preferred.
  • A minimum of 2 years past work experience in education outreach or working with a nonprofit
  • Event coordination with K-12 schools
  • Experience in current MS Office Suite
  • Experience posting to social media (Twitter, InstaGram, Facebook)
  • Experience updating websites
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work independently
