Pro Vice-Chancellor University of Waikato, Division of Arts, Law, Psychology and Social Sciences New Zealand

We are seeking an exceptional leader for our newly formed Division of Arts,
Law, Psychology and Social Sciences.

The Pro Vice-Chancellor (PVC) is the senior academic and strategic leader
of the Division, responsible for shaping its intellectual, professional and
operational culture and direction and for the effective creation and
stewardship of its resources. The PVC places paramount importance on the
interests and reputation of the University as a whole, promoting these
through leadership of the Division. There is specific responsibility to lead
academic programme development and marketing initiatives that will
increase student numbers, advance the quality of teaching and research in
the Division, ensure the appointment and development of outstanding staff
and ensure collaboration with key stakeholders.

The Division brings together the Schools of Arts, Psychology and Social
Sciences, Te Piringa – Faculty of Law and the National Institute of
Demographic and Economic Analysis. Together in 2018 they had 2,702
equivalent fulltime students (including 391 postgraduate students and 240
international students), 231 academic staff and 53 professional and support
staff.

The significance of the role is demonstrated by the appointee being a
member of the University's executive leadership group and reporting to the
Vice-Chancellor.

To succeed in this role you will need a PhD or equivalent in a relevant field,
a personal record of academic distinction and achievement in one of the
disciplinary areas of the Division and a proven track record of successful
academic leadership. Demonstrated ability to articulate a vision, lead
change in a complex environment and develop innovative strategies is
essential together with large scale budget management experience and
excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

The capacity to provide leadership that respects the diversity of approaches
in different academic disciplines, the ability to represent the interests of the
Division while contributing to University-wide leadership and a commitment
to the highest levels of quality in all activities are key attributes.

The appointment will be for a fixed term of five years.
