Description

The University of California Irvine (UCI) School of Medicine and the Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) have announced a national search for a leader who will hold the positions of the Pediatric Oncology Division Chief, Department of Pediatrics, UCI School of Medicine, Oncology Division Chief, CHOC Children’s Specialists and Medical Director, CHOC Children’s Hyundai Cancer Institute. The Search Committee, chaired by Dr. Antoine Khoury, Chief of Pediatric Urology at both CHOC Children’s and UC Irvine Medical Center, invites inquiries, nominations and applications for the position.

The Division Chief of UCI, Division Chief of CHOC Children’s, and Medical Director of the Institute will report to the Chair, Department of Pediatrics, UCI School of Medicine and Pediatrician in Chief of CHOC. S/he will be a nationally recognized scholar and forward-thinking leader, one with a distinguished record of achievement in research and scholastic work, building academic programs, and administration. Balancing the tripartite mission will be paramount, with encouragement and support for research productivity and creativity, innovative educational and training programs, and exceptional clinical excellence.

The successful candidate will define and implement the clinical, teaching, and research missions of UCI and CHOC Children’s, providing administrative and financial leadership for both Divisions and the Institute. The Chief will lead the Divisions in developing their clinical and academic programs consistent with short and long-term goals and in accordance with both the UCI Health and CHOC Children’s Strategic Plans. The successful candidate will serve as a key liaison across Divisions, leadership, administration, Executive Management, and collaborative partners for UCI, CHOC Children’s, and the Institute. The role will also provide patient care services for which the Division Chief and Medical Director is clinically privileged.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the following attributes: clinical expertise with a track record of outstanding outcomes; dedication to collaborative teamwork, focusing on patient and family experience; expertise in clinical and/or bench research; commitment to teaching and mentoring residents and fellows; commitment to diversity; and superb communication and leadership skills. S/he will be a role model and advocate, who acts collaboratively and with due consideration for the cultural values of UCI Health (Accountability, Respect, Integrity, Innovation, Service and Excellence – ARIISE).

Academic qualifications and certification/license/registry requirements for the role include: 1) MD, MD/PhD (or equivalent), 2) Eligible for unrestricted CA Medical License, 3) Completion of an ABMS recognized Fellowship in Oncology, 4) Board Eligibility or Board Certification in Oncology, and 5) MBA, MPH or MHA degree, or equivalent (preferred).

Appointment will be made in one of the following academic series:

Titles in the Professor of Clinical X Series are academically qualified individuals whose predominant responsibilities are in teaching and clinical service, and who also engage in creative activities.

Titles in the Health Sciences Clinical Professor Series are faculty who make substantial contributions to the University through excellence in teaching, clinical expertise, scholarly or creative achievement, and engagement in service.
