The Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU) is one of the most renowned and largest universities in Germany.



The Cluster of Excellence "ORIGINS: From the Origin of the Universe to the First Building Blocks of Life" is an interdisciplinary and collaborative research network funded within the framework of the Excellence Strategy of the Federal Government and the Länder. Scientists from the Ludwig Maximilian University (LMU), the Technical University of Munich (TUM), the Max Planck Institute for Astrophysics (MPA), Extraterrestrial Physics (MPE), Physics (MPP), Plasma Physics (IPP ) and Biochemistry (MPIB) as well as the European Southern Observatory (ESO) and the Leibniz Computing Center (LRZ). ORIGINS is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and established in January 2019. The first funding phase ends in December 2025, with the option of an extension of another 7 years.



• Management of the office and management of the current operations of the cluster of excellence, in particular in the areas of finance, human resources, infrastructure

• Support of the cluster spokesperson, the board, the general assembly and the scientific advisory board in the overall strategic management and administrative co-ordination

• Overall responsibility for scientific coordination and the public relations work in coordination with the managers for science, training and internal communication as well as the implementation of the measures for equality, promotion of women and family friendliness

• responsibility for the financial planning, controlling and proof of use as well as coordination of the financial handling of the guest program

• Recruitment of international scientific and non-academic personnel in the public service

• Communication with the contact persons and administrative staff of the participating university managements, faculties, partner institutes and the German Research Foundation

• Responsibility for labor and laboratory safety, building maintenance, coordination of tasks for the new application within the framework of the Strategy of excellence in the German Research Foundation towards the end of the term (from about 2024)


• Completed higher education (Master / Diploma), doctorate

• Professional experience in science and research management or as a research group leader

• Experience in personnel selection and management and in the management of teams

• Experience in third-party funding management at university or non-university institutions and expertise in the areas of budgeting , Labor and collective bargaining rights are advantageous

• Very good knowledge of spoken and written English

• Very good IT skills, in particular MS Office applications

• Abilities for independent, conceptual and structured work as well as a high degree of sense of responsibility, initiative, reliability, flexibility and resilience

• Organizational and communication skills, confident appearance, negotiating skills
