The Opportunity

UNSW Knowledge Exchange facilitates and enables the translation of new knowledge and technologies from campus to market to benefit our communities and society.  This role will accelerate translation by leading a new Entrepreneurial Campus initiative to expand co-location of R&D organisations on UNSW campus to access UNSW researcher and student expertise, research infrastructure, commercialisation support and future workforce development.

Reporting to the Director, Knowledge Exchange, you will lead and facilitate the establishment, development, and operation of the UNSW Entrepreneurial Campus (EC) to diverse organisations across research, ideas development, commercialisation and education sectors including start-ups, SME’s, as well as national and global partners, to deliver a deep and robust eco-system of both innovative and traditional employers. Working in close collaboration with UNSW stakeholders within the relevant Faculties and the Division of Research and Enterprise, Finance, Risk, Estate Management, and the Randwick Health & Innovation Precinct, you will advocate UNSW’s role in the translation of new technologies, identifying potential within emergent industries that are aligned with UNSW research strength and actively sources funding from the private and public sectors.

About the successful applicant:

You can demonstrate your relevant experience in business, innovation, and entrepreneurship, as well as:

  • Excellent knowledge of innovation and commercialisation, with solid understanding of the Australian innovation ecosystem, policies, and opportunities and university-based R&D.
  • Ability and experience in building relationships and sustaining collaboration with inventor researchers, government, industry, community and/or stakeholder management.
  • Business development experience in developing networks, building and converting a pipeline of leads and commercial engagements.
  • Project management skills, including the ability to plan, prioritise, research, implement, monitor and evaluate.
  • High level analytical skills to monitor global innovation trends, research and analyse data to drive strategic innovation.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication and influencing skills with the ability to communicate with a wide range of stakeholders and demonstrated experience in preparing proposals and pitches.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgement and problem solving within high volume work environment, with the ability to resolve and address issues quickly as they arise.
  • Proven ability to partner and work in a collaborative environment, leveraging the expertise of a broader group, to deliver successful outcomes.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.

Desirable Criteria

  • Working knowledge of identifying and securing relevant Government Grants.
  • Experience in establishing and sustaining university R&D collaboration with SMEs.
