Position Purpose

          This new position is an opportunity to shape your role and your team. We are looking for someone who:


    • has a knack for finding good stories and for telling them well
    • sees themselves as more of an editor-in-chief than just a marketer

    • has experience in producing content but is looking to build and manage a content team

    • can see the big picture but also pays attention to detail


          The Manager, Content Marketing will play a critical role in shifting the University of Ottawa from a decentralized model to an integrated branded content model for communications and marketing. The primary purpose of this role is to optimize brand and marketing communications to ensure the image and reputation of the University are enhanced at every level. The Manager provides ongoing strategic leadership as well as tactical advice on the university's end-to-end content marketing strategies and the branded content map.


Essential Qualifications


    • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing or digital communications/marketing or an equivalent combination of education and experience
    • In-depth knowledge of omni-channel marketing and communications, user experience (digital/web) and online engagement
    • Minimum of 5 years' experience in creating professional level branded content (video, graphics, audio, copy, etc.), primarily for digital. Some experience with producing branded content for print and advertising would be considered an asset
    • Minimum of 3 years' experience in human and financial resource management
    • Proven success managing content for enterprise class websites and social media channels
    • Exceptional understanding of best practices and principles of content marketing strategy and approaches in an omni-channel context; branded content creation and production, social media engagement, Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Search Engine Marketing (SEM)
    • Exceptional people skills and a demonstrated ability to lead, inspire and manage a creative team in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving, priority and deadline-driven environment
    • Highly developed story-telling skills and the ability to translate complex ideas into clear, compelling and engaging content
    • An excellent listener with the ability to think strategically and creatively for the purpose of recommending content and marketing strategies
    • Seasoned, persuasive individual with excellent communication and presentation skills as this position requires constant communication with the university community, team members, peers, stakeholders and management
    • Omni-channel and social media-savvy with solid technology experience with CMS, HTML editing, software (e.g. WordPress, Drupal), video and image editing software (e.g. Photoshop, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere, etc.)
    • Strong organizational and time management skills, proven project management skills, ability to multi-task and adhere to tight deadlines
    • Sound judgment, initiative, creativity, flexibility, tact and diplomacy, as well as experience in dealing with conflict situations and sensitive issues that reflect on corporate image
    • Superior verbal and written communication skills in both official languages (French and English)
    • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
