 The role of Manager, Security Infrastructure Operations is responsible for managing the operations of cyber security services ensuring an optimal balance between performance, cost, and user experience. This includes the design, implementation, and maintenance of cyber security services across multiple environments including on-premises, public, and hybrid cloud in close collaboration with our vendors and suppliers.

The position requires expert knowledge and significant experience in:

• Security services and technologies such as SIEM, EDR, EPP, SEG, NGFW, and IAM
• Cloud native AWS security services including WAF, Security Hub, Inspector, and KMS
• Microsoft security services including Defender for O365, Cloud App Security, Information Protection, and Azure AD
• Managing MSSP providers and security vendors
• Security Operations Centre (SOC) service delivery

The Manager, Security Infrastructure Operations will possess strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate, interact, and engage with our partners, vendors, internal, and external stakeholders. The role reports directly to the Head of Cyber Security Operations. There will be a team of Senior

Specialists reporting to the Manager, Security Infrastructure Operations. The reporting lines, types and number of roles reporting to the position will evolve over time as the service portfolio grows and matures.

Specific accountabilities for this role include:

  • Lead and mentor an internal team of security infrastructure specialists managing the ongoing delivery of security services and technologies hosted on-premises and in public cloud (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS)
  • Manage the CI/CD pipeline following an Infrastructure-as-Code approach to automate security testing and manage security services
  • Ensure security services are regularly monitored, highly available, and operating in accordance with approved design and architecture documents
  • Define and document service roadmaps and implementation strategies in consultation with our vendors, suppliers, and other stakeholders
  • Document service management plans, processes, designs, compliance reports, and risks using new or established templates
  • Regularly track and validate supplier performance in accordance with KPI’s, objectives, and contract terms, and resolving or escalating performance issues or disputes
  • Continuous assessment and review of the technology landscape identifying future technology needs for input into the security strategy and program.
  • Lead security governance meetings to report on the effectiveness of security services and providing recommendations following a continuous improvement model. This includes the reporting of risks, issues, incidents, compliance matters and other metrics.
  • Manage and co-ordinate operational and response activities between UNSW and our external MSSP partners providing 24x7 SOC and MDR services
  • Escalation point for major incidents impacting the organisation, coordinating communications

Skills and Experience

• 8  years of industry experience in cyber security operations, with a minimum 3 years of management experience in a cyber security environment or in a senior support role
• Strong technical skills and operational experience in the management, configuration, and support of security controls including network security, endpoint security, application security, data protection, and/or identity and access management.
• Experience with managing and configuring cloud native security services across public cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, and/or GCP
• Sound understanding of DevSecOps delivery models and practices
• Knowledge of CI/CD, source control management, and deployment automation
• Comprehensive analytical and problem-solving skills and proven capacity to exercise initiative, flexibility and to be proactive in development of robust solutions to problems.
