The Clinical and Translational Research Unit (CTRU) laboratory at Stanford University, is seeking a Laboratory Research Coordinator to perform laboratory and administrative support duties related to the collection and processing of human samples for clinical research studies. Work will be conducted under supervision of the Lab Services Manager. A heavy emphasis on attention to detail and ability to multitask efficiently and accurately will be required.

 

The CTRU lab is the focal point for hypothesis-driven research across multiple disciplines, and is instrumental in the design and discovery of biomarkers that help us comprehend the human body’s physiology. The CTRU laboratory designs and collaborates on studies, both locally and globally, that are interested in the molecular basis for how biochemicals outside and within a single cell present and are characterized across various platforms in proteomics, immunology, genomics, and much more. The fundamental understanding and interpretation of this phenotyping can provide insight on an individual’s chance of responding to various therapeutics.

 

Duties include: 

  • Accessioning, processing, and storage of specimens/samples accurately per SOPs/training. Follows SOPs for research studies/source documents as directed.
  • Assists in planning and performing experiments in support of research projects in lab and/or field based on knowledge of scientific theory. Interpret and perform basic analyses of results for research support.
  • Offer suggestions regarding modifications to procedures and protocols in collaboration with faculty investigators and other labs.
  • Tracks sample processing data and enters them into a database. Maintains all forms and documents including master subject logs.
  • Takes initiative, identifies and mitigates risks to ensure accuracy in sample processing and data storage.
  • Work safely under the EH&S guidelines with potentially biohazardous biological specimens.
  • Help with general lab maintenance as needed; maintain lab stock, equipment, manage chemical inventory and safety records, and provide general lab support as needed.
  • Work closely with labs and treatment centers across Stanford community to insure critical study time points are met.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Familiarity with databases, reporting, and performance indicators.

Microsoft office suite or ability to learn new software.

Organizational skills to troubleshoot unplanned situations while still meeting established deadlines.

The ability to communicate both in writing and verbally.

Capable of independent and self-motivated work to complete tasks with minimal direction.

Must maintain punctuality, good attendance and flexibility to work hours when study subjects are scheduled.

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED): 

Two year college degree and one year of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.

 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):
General knowledge of medical terminology.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*: 
  • Frequently stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat and use fine light/fine grasping.
  • Occasionally sit, reach above shoulders, perform desk based computer tasks, use a telephone and write by hand, lift, carry, push, and pull objects that weigh up to 40 pounds.
  • Rarely kneel, crawl, climb ladders, grasp forcefully, sort and file paperwork or parts, rarely lift, carry, push, and pull objects that weigh 40 pounds or more.
