Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Laboratory Manager coordinates and manages equipment and instrumentation needs and operations pertinent to teaching and research activities of the Whiting-Turner (W-T) Infrastructures Engineering Laboratories.

Primary responsibilities include: oversee daily operation of all laboratory equipment and components; interact with TAs, research investigators, and student assistants involved in experimental work, for ensuring timely functional operation of all instrumentation; provide proper training for TAs, research investigators, and student assistants in safely operating laboratory instrumentation; provide assistance to laboratory investigators, TAs and graduate students when equipment purchases and repairs are necessary; coordinate or transact business with contractors and equipment manufactures within and outside the Civil Engineering department related to laboratory matters or work projects performed within the W-T engineering facility, including purchasing of equipment and proper installation; oversee laboratory investigators, TAs, and students adhering to safety practices and maintenance of all the aforementioned laboratories including but not limited to experimental equipment, associated accessories, applicable materials and tools; monitor and maintain laboratory supplies and materials, purchasing and restocking as necessary; coordinate and interact with faculty and other Laboratory Managers outside the department for educational and technical support purposes, including exchange of technical laboratory matters; ensure all regular or permanent laboratory investigators (TAs, graduate/research students) undergo proper training on operation of laboratory equipment, including safety training as required by ESSI department, and enforce policies on proper application of PPE; prepare and update of all laboratory safety manuals, safety data sheets as required by ESSI department; and oversee the organization and cleanliness of all laboratory rooms, ensuring all experimental equipment function and are properly maintained; perform repair and
calibration of lab equipment as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:
B.S. in Engineering (preferably Civil or Electrical Engineering)
Minimum 8 years of experience in similar field and/or laboratory
Knowledgeable with the use of electrical and electronics hardware and software
diagnostic tools to be able to perform operational assessment of laboratory
instrumentation, including electronics, servo-hydraulic and DAQ systems
Proficiency with PC, and standard software (MS Word, Excel, Power Point,
CAD).
