The Director has institutional responsibilities for promoting and overseeing scientific research, educational, grant-development, and regional economic re-development activities. The Director of NRI has multiple responsibilities: • Recruit, mentor and lead the activities of faculty members and their research teams NRI is located in Kannapolis on the North Carolina Research Campus (NCRC), about two hours from Chapel Hill (25 min from Charlotte NC). Also housed on the campus are programs from UNC Greensboro (Center for Translational Biomedical Research), NC Central University (Nutrition Research Program of the Julius L. Chambers Biomedical Biotechnology Research Institute), NC A&T University (Center for Excellence in Post-Harvest Technologies), NC State University (Plants for Human Health Institute), Appalachian State (Human Performance Lab) and UNC Charlotte (Bioinformatics Services). The 125,000 sq. foot building that houses the NRI was completed and occupied in 2008. The NRI is currently the largest research center located on the NCRC, with more than 90 employees and occupying 96,000 square feet of laboratory and office space. The NRI is the only UNC Chapel Hill research institute located in central/western North Carolina and one of only three UNC Centers housed outside of the mother campus in Chapel Hill/Carrboro. The NRI works to discover why people differ in their metabolism and nutritional requirements through the study of health and human development and discovering how genetic, epigenetic, microbiome, metabolic mechanisms and environmental exposures affect a person’s requirements for and responses to nutrition. This understanding is used to ensure optimal health through precision nutrition. Nominees and applicants for Director must have a record of distinguished nutrition research based scholarship, as well as the administrative, leadership, and grant-development skills required for a major research institution. The applicant should be a senior scholar who appreciates and fosters interdisciplinary research. The Director will have an appointment at the rank of full professor in an appropriate academic department at UNC. Educational Requirements Doctorate degree in related field. Qualifications and Experience Nominees and applicants for Director must have a record of distinguished nutrition research-based scholarship, as well as the administrative, leadership, and grant-development skills required for a major research institution. The applicant should be a senior scholar who appreciates and fosters interdisciplinary research.
