The Careers Service is seeking an enthusiastic Information Adviser to join the team. The Information Adviser will provide an efficient and professional welcome to users of the service, will book appointments, update careers information and disseminate job vacancies via our online systems. The Information Adviser will work closely and collaborate with other members of the team to assist with effective and comprehensive dissemination of all careers related information

The Careers Service works to ensure Imperial College students maintain an edge in their employability and career planning by offering a wide range of services including one to one and group advice sessions.

Duties and responsibilities

The role is varied and will include various aspects of enquiry, reception duty and information research and writing:

Enquiry Duties:

• Dealing with enquiries from students, employers and departmental staff
• Acting as the first Careers Service contact for students, advising them of appropriate information sources and, when necessary, referring students to the appropriate Careers Service staff member or relevant staff within other departments
• Assisting at Careers Service events e.g. helping to set up stands and helping with enquiries

Information Research and Writing:
• To research, write and develop content for a variety of audiences via the Careers website and careers publications.
• To work with the Information Manager to maintain and develop a current news section of the website. 
• To work with the Information Manager to research, develop and update careers information resources (paper-based and online).
• Assisting the Information Manager in developing the use of social media and other technologies to improve the promotion of online information/services.

Office Systems:
• Maintaining and developing the Careers Service website under the supervision of the Information Manager. 
• Receiving and disseminating employer vacancies via the online vacancy service
• Assisting the Information Manager in managing hard copy information including the receiving and dissemination of bulk deliveries of magazines and directories. 
• Maintaining general office administrative systems, including photocopying and filing and distributing post as necessary to support the efficiency of the office

Essential requirements



    • Degree level or equivalent    


    • Customer care skills developed from experience of working in an organisation providing a service to students and/or employers, ideally in an H.E. setting


    • Experience of providing a front line reception/information service


    • A high standard of administrative and organisational skills 


    • Ability to multi task and to set personal priorities IT


    •  The ability to work with minimum supervision


    •  Commitment to an excellent standard of customer service


    • An open and positive attitude to working in a changing environment


    • The ability to work in a busy office while recognising the importance of detail and attention to deadlines


    • The ability to manage, take responsibility and innovate within the office 


    • Experience with MS Office software including Outlook, Word, Access, Excel 


    • Experience of website content development/editing using a content management system


    • Knowledge of a variety of social media and its application in a working environment



Further information

The post is Full time, permanent and will be based at our South Kensington campus in Central London. There may be occasion when late evening working or travel to our other campuses is required.
