Position Title:

Human Resources Advisor (PER2D)

Position Summary:


As HR Advisor for University Advancement at McGill University, you will be part of a dynamic team of professionals dedicated to supporting the University’s philanthropic mission. Under the direction of the Director of Human Resources and Talent Management, you will work closely with internal clients to provide them with top-quality support across all HR functional areas.

Primary Responsibilities:


Leveraging your proven experience and client service skills, as HR Advisor you will:


    Establish strong and proactive relationships with internal clients to provide value-added guidance and coaching on a wide-range of complex HR issues;

    Recruit and select top candidates to deliver on our mission, including the development of sourcing strategies and recruitment tools;

    Conduct position and organizational reviews and make recommendations to optimize roles and structure, in alignment with strategic priorities;

    Ensure that equity is maintained by applying current compensation principles and techniques to make effective recommendations;

    Provide guidance on performance/disciplinary issues and the application of collective agreements;

    Support talent management through direct involvement with performance management, engagement and other related initiatives;

    Maintain a focus on metrics by analyzing and leveraging data to influence decisions;

    Ensure consistent application and continuous improvement of HR initiatives, policies and procedures;

    Uphold the values and culture of University Advancement.


Minimum Education & Experience:


Undergraduate degree


Three (3) years' related experience

Other Qualifying Skills And/Or Abilities:

As our ideal candidate you: Five or more years experience as an HR generalist, providing complex advisory services in support of the complete HR cycle (i.e., recruitment/selection, compensation, performance management, staff development, labour and employee relations) a strong asset; Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline - an HR Certificate/Diploma is a strong asset; CRHA designation (preferred); Committed to professional development and maintain up-to-date knowledge about best practices within the field of HR;Proven superior client service skills and the ability to act as a trusted advisor to the business; Ability to influence and are a proven team-player with success in building and maintaining strong, consistent, and positive working relationships – including in a matrixed organization; Comfortable working in a highly agile environment and have the ability to maintain composure under pressure and to meet key deadlines; Demonstrated creativity in solving complex problems; Skilled at working with data and applying metrics to HR deliverables; Fluent in English, both spoken and written, with advanced writing and presentation ability. Have excellent spoken French and some written – bilingualism is a strong asset.
