About the Faculty

The Faculty of Sports Studies at Masaryk University is a dynamically developing faculty located in the modern premises of the University Campus in Brno-Bohunice. Our mission is to promote a physically active and healthy lifestyle across all age and performance groups, advance knowledge in sports science, and uphold the principles of fair play in sport and everyday life.

Role Overview

We are seeking a mature, visionary academic leader with strong strategic thinking skills to serve as Head of the Department of Physical Education and Social Sciences. The successful candidate will combine scientific, pedagogical, and social expertise, inspire and motivate colleagues, support their professional growth, and contribute to fulfilling the faculty’s mission through innovative approaches.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure the functioning and development of the department in line with the faculty’s strategic plan.

• Oversee educational, scientific, and research activities and ensure required outcomes.

• Fulfil the university’s third mission (societal engagement and impact).

• Manage departmental staff (motivation, evaluation, career growth).

• Oversee the department’s finances in collaboration with the faculty secretary.

• Support the growth of research and scientific activities.

• Collaborate closely with the faculty management team.

• Conduct own teaching and research activities.

Requirements

• University education with at least a PhD in a relevant discipline.

• Strong organizational and management skills.

• Excellent communication skills.

• Proven experience in leading teams.

• Significant teaching and research record, including international activities.

• Excellent command of Czech and advanced knowledge of English (min. B2).
