Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of Masaryk University announces a selection procedure for the position of:

Head of the Department of Biochemistry

Department of Biochemistry is an educational and research unit of the Faculty of Medicine at Masaryk University. It provides teaching in medical chemistry, biochemistry, clinical and applied biochemistry within both master’s and bachelor’s degree programmes. Its research focuses on pathological processes, particularly oxidative stress, hypoxia and ischemia, the metabolism of low-molecular-weight compounds, the synthesis of biologically active compounds, and biotransformation processes.

The candidate for Head of the Department must be a respected expert in the field of biochemistry at both national and international level, with experience in team management and teaching at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels.

The Head of the Department will be responsible for managing the department, undergraduate education, postgraduate studies, publication activities, and coordination of the department’s research activities. As part of the selection procedure, candidates for the position of Head of the Department will present their vision for fulfilling the responsibilities outlined above.


Requirements for a declared position

  • Higher education in a medical or natural science field or equivalent education obtained abroad;
  • Academic degree Ph.D. or scientific rank of CSc.;
  • Habilitation within the meaning of Act No. 111/1998 Coll., on Higher Education, the scientific-pedagogical title of professor is an advantage;
  • Personal and professional prerequisites for managing the academic team of the department;
  • Teaching experience and readiness to guarantee the professional subjects taught in the workplace;
  • Significant publication history and active research;
  • Scientific reputation in the international field;
  • Personal and moral integrity;
  • Experience with a management position.
  • Fulfilment of prerequisites according to Act No. 451/1991 Coll. (the Lustration Act); (persons born after 1 December 1971 and foreign applicants do not have to prove).
