Head of administration applied for biomedical elite center at the University of Copenhagen 

If you have an organizational overview, are good at organizing administrative processes and have strong collaboration skills - then you might be BRIC's new Head of Administration. We are looking for a visionary administrator who can support BRIC's administrative tasks, including in particular supporting the research environment in economics and HR and further developing cohesion between the individual research groups and the administration. A key task is to ensure a close link between BRIC's management and the administrative units at the Faculty of Health Sciences, as well as support the implementation of the University's policies and parts of the University Strategy 2023 at BRIC. 

The position is for occupation per. on November 1, 2019 or soon thereafter.

About BRIC: 

The Biotech Research & Innovation Center (BRIC) is a biomedical research center that conducts research at an international high level, educates new researchers and purposefully seeks to make our research results utilized and commercialized. Our research is organized into research groups that have basic disease-oriented research as the main area. We focus on investigating essential molecular biological and cellular mechanisms and linking them to disease development. BRIC is part of the Faculty of Health Sciences (SUND) at the University of Copenhagen and handles part of the faculty's teaching of students in molecular pathology. BRIC has a cooperation agreement with the Finnish Laboratory at Rigshospitalet, and in total the center has approx. 250 employees across 26 research groups. The Center's annual turnover in 2018 was $ 195. 3 million, of which 71% came from external fund appropriations. More information atwww.bric.ku.dk .   

Job description:

As the Head of Administration, your most important role will be to ensure a coherent administrative organization and smooth processes between BRIC and internal as well as external partners. In BRIC's administration, we work on a value set with 'competences & responsibilities' as common denominator. We have an organization with collaboration across different professional groups, which reflects that we focus on solutions to support research and teaching at current high levels. BRIC's administration handles tasks in HR, finance, procurement, secretarial duties and building and laboratory operations. The Head of Administration will have a direct management role in relation to a small proportion of the administration's employees, and a coordinating task in relation to employees employed at SUND's HR and Accounting Center.  

Responsibilities: 

  • Take care of the day-to-day operations of BRIC in collaboration with BRIC's director and other administration, as well as the ongoing optimization and development of administrative processes. 
  • Manage BRIC's budget law budget and accumulated funds from overhead on externally funded projects; compliance with state and university accounting rules 
  • Continuously coordinate with the faculty's administrative units (Research and Innovation, Accounting and HR Center on administrative processes.   
  • In collaboration with SUND Accounting Center, SUND Research & Innovation and BRIC's strategic research support team, coordinate application and administration of external research funding, including secure application budgets, contract negotiation, granting and reporting, and ongoing dialogue with BRIC's research leaders on financial planning and strategy. 
  • Support HR processes and committees at the center, eg collaboration committees, annual salary negotiations, MUS and APV 

qualifications: 

We expect you to: 

  • Have a relevant master's degree in, for example, administration, management or finance 
  • Has extensive experience in budgeting, financial management and reporting 
  • Has solid relevant work experience and several years of management experience of interdisciplinary administrative teams, preferably in the research and education sector. 
  • Good at maintaining professional focus and priorities in a dynamic and complex organizational structure  
  • Possess solid collaboration and networking skills and strong communication skills, both orally and in writing and in both Danish and English 

Salary and Employment Terms: 

Appointment as chief consultant with personnel management in accordance with applicable agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC with the possibility of negotiating supplement for qualifications.
