Duties and Responsibilities

The Development Planning Unit (DPU) is an international centre specialising in academic teaching, practical training, research and consultancy in the field of urban and regional development and planning. It is concerned with promoting sustainable forms of development, understanding rapid urbanisation and encouraging innovation in the policy, planning and management responses to the economic, social and environmental development of cities and regions, especially in Asia, Africa and Latin America. 


The Development Planning Unit attracts a range of staff members with both academic and professional backgrounds in the field of international development.  Teaching, research and advisory work at the DPU includes a significant degree of engagement with practice and field experience, including an international field trip.

The Graduate Teaching Assistant provides support to the Programme Leader of the MSc Urban Development Planning (UDP) course for academic administration, and basic academic inputs into the programme. The Graduate Teaching Assistant will also help to manage IT systems involved in the web-based elements of the course.

The post is an open-ended contract and 4 days a week (80% FTE), 29.2 hours per week. We expect the applicant to commence duty in September 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Key Requirements:
Candidates need educated, at least to Masters level in a subject related to urban development planning studies; and possess strong analytical skills. They need to demonstrate good interpersonal skills and excellent administrative and organisational skills, in particular a good knowledge of computer software.
