Financial Analyst

The Financial Analyst will work closely with the Operations Manager and Administrative Director to support timely financial and administrative activities of the Division of Adult Cardiothoracic Surgery at Parnassus Heights Campus. This position will require skillful execution of a wide range of responsibilities, such as communicating with faculty, staff and trainees at all levels and outside agencies, prioritizing and managing all aspects of the workflow of the assignments. The Analyst will work on assignments that are moderately complex in nature, where judgment is required in resolving problems and collaborating with others in a team environment. 

Responsibilities include reconciling general ledgers, preparing ad hoc analysis and reports; reviewing and processing vendor contracts, submitting invoices, catering orders, and processing payment requests, serving as BearBuy buyer and voucher approver, maintaining office and pantry supplies, updating conference room calendar and schedule, maintaining an up to date phone list, organization chart, summary of chart of accounts, workflow flowchart, and database. 

In addition, the Financial Analyst will provide support to our faculty. The Analyst will be responsible for paying membership dues, renewing licenses, registering faculty for meetings and conferences, maintaining CVs, Bio-sketches, CME credits, updating faculty’s call schedule, performing complex calendar management and meeting scheduling.

Care of patients is what attracted our faculty and residents to surgery, and it continues to be our main focus. 

The Department is comprised of seven divisions: Adult Cardiothoracic Surgery, General Surgery, Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery, Pediatric Surgery, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, Transplant Surgery, and Vascular & Endovascular Surgery. Our surgeons provide care at locations throughout the greater San Francisco Bay Area including: UCSF Health, Zuckerberg San Francisco General (ZSFG), San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center (SFVAMC) and Alameda County Medical Center in Oakland.


The Department of Surgery Chair’s Office is an extremely high profile, fast paced environment with a very diverse range of contacts and needs which require an immediate and accurate response, handled with confidentiality and compliance. The Chair's Office is responsible for management, direction and oversight of over 400 faculty (clinical and research), trainees and staff personnel.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in related area and one or more years of related experience; and / or equivalent experience / training
• Working knowledge of finance policies, practices, and systems
• Proven competency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
• Ability to gather reasonably retrievable information to organize, and perform basic financial analysis assignments
• Demonstrated ability to effectively present information verbally and in writing clearly and concisely
• Demonstrated ability using spreadsheet and database software for moderately complex financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports
• Demonstrated interpersonal skills at all levels within the unit; excellent service orientation and critical thinking skills; and attention to detail. Demonstrated ability using organizational skills to multi-task in a high volume environment
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities
• Ability to function as a member of a team
• Ability to function both effectively as a member of a team as well as independently and with minimal supervision

Preferred Qualifications

• Intermediate knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources
• Proficiency with UCSF systems such as BearBuy, MyExpense
