The Division of Undergraduate Education at UCLA invites applications for the position of Director for the Undergraduate Research Center (URC) for Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Research, a successful candidate will teach and administer URC programs including the campus-wide Student Research Program course, Research Practice courses, a literary journal, research presentation events, and both college- and privately-funded undergraduate research programs, some of which specifically serve underrepresented students. The Director oversees a staff of two PhD-level Assistant Directors, one student services advisor and one administrative assistant, as well as eight graduate students. The Director collaborates with faculty and staff to work with and mentor students involved in URC programs. The Director also collaborates with the Library in a variety of programs to support undergraduate research. The focus of this position is to support the research experiences for undergraduates, including outreach, counseling, and management of introductory and advanced research programs. Grant writing and program assessment is required.

A doctoral degree in the humanities, social sciences, library sciences or education is essential. Post-doctoral research experience would be preferred. The successful candidate must have demonstrated experience in student mentoring and engagement with undergraduates in research. Grant writing experience is preferred. We are looking for someone with the ability to work collegially with faculty and staff; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; excellent written and presentation skills. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated successful experience in: teaching; program assessment; event planning; mentoring; and programs that foster academic success for underrepresented students.
