Director of UDAR Budget and Administration

Reporting to the Assistant Vice Chancellor, Development Services, the Director, UDAR Budget and Administration directs budget development and financial forecasting for units reporting to University Development & Alumni Relations (UDAR). Directs department administration, including procurement, facilities management. Supervises budget analyst and administrative services staff. Acts as department business officer and system access administrator. Responsible for department compliance with procurement and administrative policies. Monitors budget. Provides guidance to other managers regarding budget, procurement and administrative procedures and policies. 

The Director receives assignments in the form of objectives and determines how to use resources to meet schedules and goals. Manages, prepares, administers, and directs control of budget / organization resources. Manages the activities of the financial / resource analyst staff. Reviews and approves recommendations for financial planning and control. Monitors division and department adherence to approved budget. Provides guidance to subordinates to achieve goals in accordance with established policies. Work is reviewed and measured based on meeting objectives and schedules. Follows processes and operational policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve goals result in additional costs and personnel, and serious delays in overall schedules.

The UCSF Foundation is responsible for fostering and strengthening the campus’ outreach to constituents and for garnering private support. The University Development and Alumni Relations (UDAR) office staffs the UCSF Foundation, and oversees the design and implementation of fundraising campaigns and activities. UDAR identifies, qualifies, solicits and stewards donors for the schools, medical centers, departments and programs on campus; accepts and administers all private gifts to the university through The Regents or the UCSF Foundation; and manages all alumni relations activities, campus support group activities and campus events.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
• Five years of related experience
• Advanced knowledge of financial policies, practices and systems; budgeting and reporting techniques; financial modeling, fund accounting; human resource planning and general business operations
• Demonstrated analytical and decision making skills
• Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
• Interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively across the organization at all levels; ability to interact with a diverse population
• Client services oriented - good listening, critical thinking and analytical skills

Preferred Qualifications

• MBA or other advanced degree in finance or accounting
• Ability to multi-task
• Ability to evaluate processes to establish and maintain appropriate accountability structures and strong internal control elements
• Negotiation skills
• Demonstrated ability to manage significant projects involving numerous stakeholders and organizational needs with limited resources and budget
• Proven ability to exert leadership in a collaborative environment with major campus and outside stakeholders
• Experience in managing budgets and administrative activities within the UC system
• Supervisory experience
• Knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources
