Job description

The KIT library of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) is one of the most modern libraries in Germany. For over 30 years, it has been one of the pioneers in the field of innovative information services. Today, with its 130 employees and a budget of around 14 million euros, KIT is a high-performance information and communication media service center, which is available to its users around the clock. In addition to KIT, it also supplies the Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences and Technology and the Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University in Karlsruhe with literature and information at several locations. The KIT Library aims to further expand its offering of electronic and digital services and to provide consistent management of digital and analogue information resources for research,

The tasks include:

  • Strategic and organizational leadership including budget and personnel responsibility
  • Active personnel development
  • Active role and cooperation in the further development of information supply and processing
  • Support and advice of the Presidium u. a. in the fields of research data management, open access, open science and learning space development
  • Dedicated cooperation with the other facilities of KIT
  • Further strengthening of the third-party funding ratio
  • Professional representation of the KIT library in committees and public

Personal qualification

They have:

  • A completed education for the higher library service at scientific libraries
  • Proven successful leadership experience in the academic library service
  • Cooperative leadership style, communication and social skills, negotiating skills and implementation skills
  • Structured working method, pronounced analytical skills and solution orientation
  • Experience-based IT competence in the information sector
  • Willingness to cooperate with all facilities of KIT
  • Conceptual ideas for the continuous improvement of information services through research and development, eg. In research data management, open access, open science, and learning space development
  • Good knowledge of national and international developments in librarianship
  • Experience in third-party funding (acquisition / implementation)
  • Very good knowledge of English in spoken and written
