Position description

Applications are invited for the Director position of the Teacher Education Program at the University of California, Santa Barbara.

The Director is responsible for overseeing all ongoing activity associated within the Teacher Education Program (TEP). These may include curriculum planning, program operational and instructional budget oversight, accreditation and program evaluation activities, oversight of the Teacher Performance Assessment, and tasks related to the coordination of the credential programs (Special Education, Elementary, and Secondary) such as faculty hiring and student affairs. The Director supervises and works directly with the TEP Associate Director and program staff and coordinates with TEP faculty and students as necessary. The Director leads biweekly TEP leadership meetings and quarterly TEP faculty retreats. Collaborates with the TEP and Gevirtz Graduate School of Education leadership teams to establish vision and direction for TEP that includes a strong commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice. Maintains and establishes relationships with partnering districts. Maintains active professional involvement in CA and national teacher education policies, practices, and professional organizations.

The Director is responsible for finalizing all academic appointments in the Teacher Education Program, including reappointing lecturers and supervisors and hiring teaching assistants, teaching associates, and lecturers as needed. The Director also works closely with the Education Department Chair to articulate program needs, including faculty teaching assignments for TEP courses.

The Director is part of the Gevirtz Graduate School of Education leadership team and attends bi-weekly meetings along with monthly meetings with the Dean and Assistant Dean.

Reporting:
Reports to Dean, Gevirtz Graduate School of Education: Dr. Jeffrey F. Milem

Supervision:
Directly supervises the Associate Director for the Teacher Education Program, TEP Program Administrator, and is the overall supervisor of lecturers, supervisors, and academic coordinators in the Teacher Education Program.

Salary is based on UCSB salary scales. Open until filled.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

PhD in Education or related field at the time of application
California teaching credential or equivalent at the time of application

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

Minimum of two years teaching at the college level
Minimum of two years experience with supervision of student teachers
Minimum of three years K-12 public school teaching experience

Preferred qualifications

Knowledge of California accreditation system and standards
