About the position

NTNU and partners have the ambition to develop Norwegian Open AI Lab (NAIL) to become a national center of gravity for artificial intelligence, big data and machine learning. As a national center of gravity, NAIL should also be a central national supplier of premises and an important international player in terms of strategic choices for artificial intelligence.

 

Hosting NAIL is the Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering (IE) at NTNU, and the lab is an important instrument in NTNU's strategic focus area NTNU Digital . NAIL cooperates with some of the largest players in the Norwegian business sector to develop and apply artificial intelligence. Partners in Norwegian Open AI Lab are currently Telenor, Equinor, DNB, DNV GL, Kongsberg Gruppen and SINTEF. We are experiencing great interest from many players that we want to enter into partnerships and cooperation with in the time to come. In our newly established director position, you will be NAIL's leader, face-to-face and have a key role in building and developing relationships and networks to realize NAIL's full potential.

 

This involves working proactively and trust building with relationships both externally to existing and new partners, authorities and the media - and broadly in the academic environments internally at NTNU.

 

The Director shall, in close cooperation with the management at the faculty and academic resources, ensure efficient operation and development within NAIL's activities. Development of NAIL's organization and work processes will be an important task in this.

 

The position reports to the dean at the IE faculty.

 

responsibilities

Communicate and manage according to NAIL's vision and strategy

Profiles NAIL nationally and internationally, represent the environment in boards and committees

Long-term reputation and relationship building, including frequent contact with authorities, politicians and the media

Coordination between the academic environment internally and externally in NAIL's collaboration with many different actors

Develop and safeguard internal organization and culture

eligibility Requirements

Relevant higher education, minimum master level in relevant subject area, primarily ICT, but can also be in other areas of mathematics, natural science and technology.

Minimum 5 years of managerial experience from comparable, larger business where you can show results within:

             - Strategic management - from planning to implementation

             - Networking - nationally and internationally

             - Organizational development, team and culture building

 

Good knowledge of the agency in education, research and innovation

Very good oral and written presentation ability in a Scandinavian language and English

Long and directly relevant experience and / or continuing education can compensate for lack of formal competence

 

Wanted qualifications

Work experience from business / industry / academia with similar management tasks

Experience from research and development in relevant areas such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, large data analysis, statistics etc. - often also from interdisciplinary projects and applications

Solid experience in national / international relations building within research, establishment and implementation of international research projects, and have experience with establishing new business based on research (contractor / intrapreneur)

Salaries and terms

The position will be placed on wage policy as project manager code 1113 and will depend on qualifications and seniority when wages are to be determined. Pay by agreement with the faculty. From salaries, 2% of statutory deposits are withdrawn from the Government Pension Fund.

 

The employment is carried out in accordance with the principles of the State Employees Act, and legislation regulating the export of knowledge, technology and services. After hiring, you must expect changes to the work area.
