Position description

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at UC Davis Health School of Medicine is seeking a dynamic leader to serve as the Director of Microbiology at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor rank, in the Professor of Clinical (X) or Health Sciences Clinical Professor (HSCP) series.

This position reports to the Director of Clinical Pathology and will be an operational leader, providing strategic vision and collaborative implementation to grow the department’s Microbiology Division. The primary clinical responsibilities include medical/scientific directorship of laboratory/division staff in collaboration with the department chair and other department section leaders, laboratory test development and validation, oversight of laboratory operations, and maintenance of licensure and accreditation. Participation in the institution's research/scholarly mission is expected, either as a collaborator or as an intellectual leader of clinically oriented research projects, depending on the academic series chosen for appointment. The candidate will have opportunities for collaboration within the UC Davis Health System, including the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine and the California National Primate Center. Additional responsibilities will include teaching housestaff and medical students, interdisciplinary conferences, and curriculum development in subspecialty areas.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

• Must possess an MD, MD/PhD, or PhD degree.
• MD candidates must be board-eligible/certified in CP or AP/CP.
• PhD candidates must be board-eligible/certified by the American Board of Medical Microbiology (ABMM).
• A California medical license or eligibility for licensure is required.
• All candidates must be U.S. Citizens or hold an employment visa.
• Must have experience in a clinical or academic setting that includes clinical care, teaching, and research that would meet requirements for appointment at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level in one of the University of California’s clinically intensive academic series Clinical (X) or HSCP series.
• The ability to maintain a high-level of service, work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse environment, exhibit excellent interpersonal skills to build and maintain excellent relationships with medical and technical staff, trainees, and others is required.
