As of 1 September 2019, there will be a vacancy within the Faculty of Law for the role of Director of Education Graduate School of Law . The director of the Graduate School of Lawadvises the dean on strategic education policy in the faculty and is responsible for the range of courses on offer in the master's phase. The director knows how to shape the education policy in order to realize high-quality education within the different master's degree programs of the faculty. In the coming years, the faculty will focus strongly on renewing its education. The director is expected to play a leading role in this, within the frameworks that have been set up for this, among others in the faculty Strategic Plan, the document 'Spending quality money FdR - December 2018' and the 'Program plan for Educational Innovation FdR - April 2019'.

The three interdependent spearheads of the program are:

stimulating successful study (among other things by improving structure and coherence in study programs, and by strengthening activating learning);
strengthening scientific and legal skills;
the further development of experiential education.
The Director of Education of the Graduate School of Law is responsible for the entire Master's degree programs at the faculty and supervises a coherent range of programs and the quality of the education provided within them.

The Director of Education:

supervises the program directors in the Master's programs;
coordinates and facilitates the coherence and common ambitions and interests of the Masters courses;
is responsible for the preparation of the budget and the allocation of the education budget;
prepare the annual plan and annual report of the Graduate School of Law ;
prepares the proposals for the education and examination regulations of the Masters courses;
focuses on the achievement of training objectives.
The director also supervises the implementation of the education and examination regulations of the programs that fall under the Graduate School . The director is responsible for the preparation of educational accreditations for new and existing master's programs.

The Director of Education Graduate School of Law takes part in administrative consultations and maintains contacts with students, researchers, alumni, sister faculties and other stakeholders relevant to the study programs and uses the resulting information as a basis for the renewal and adjustment of the education (offer).

The Director of Education is responsible for the finances of the Graduate School of Law . In close cooperation with the director of the College of Law , the director provides functional leadership to the head of the Education Service Center with the aim of providing adequate and efficient support for the teaching processes in the master's programs.

The Director of Education Graduate School of Law reports to the dean.


The director:

has an inspiring vision of Dutch and English legal master's education, against the background of the national and international context;
has demonstrable qualities to turn this vision into workable policy;
has stimulating leadership qualities and has managerial experience in academic education;
has proven qualities with regard to radical renewal of legal (master) education
is an organizer with a result-oriented approach;
has a relevant network of internal and external stakeholders and is a proactive and networking director;
is involved with students and is aware of their interests;
is accessible and easily accessible for students;
has excellent communication skills, persuasiveness and adaptability;
has a good command of English, both orally and in writing.
The candidate comes from the scientific staff of the FdR and has a PhD. The Graduate School of Law Director of Education is preferably a professor from the faculty; other candidates who meet the criteria are invited to apply.
