The University of California Irvine (UCI) School of Medicine Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine invites applications from MD or MD-PhD board-certified neuropathologists to direct the Division of Neuropathology. The full-time academic appointment may be at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level in the Health Sciences Clinical or Clinical X series, depending on experience and extent of research effort. Clinical X appointments confer membership in the UCI Academic Senate.

As Director of the Division of Neuropathology, the successful recruit will have the administrative and interpersonal skills to effectively lead and coordinate clinical, teaching, and research activities within and beyond the division. Candidates should have extensive and current clinical expertise in surgical neuropathology, including the application of state-of-the-art molecular testing. Candidates with expertise and special interest in CNS neoplasms are preferred. As a member of the UCI Alzheimer Disease Research Center (ADRC), candidates should also have experience in dementia and autopsy neuropathology. Expertise in nerve and muscle pathology is preferable, but optional. Clinical licensure and board certification in neuropathology are required, as is dedication to teaching and mentoring, which will involve medical students, graduate students, residents, fellows, and junior faculty.

The successful recruit will also have the skills to carry out neuropathological or related research as a thought leader or collaborative team member. Extramural research funding is welcome, but not required. Campus resources in neuroscience research include the ADRC, Institute for Memory Impairments and Neurologic Disorders (iMIND), Center for Autism Research and Translation (CART), Reeve-Irvine Spinal Cord Injury Center, Epilepsy Center (EpiCenter), Center for Complex Biological Systems (CCBS), Sue and Bill Gross Stem Cell Research Center (SCRC), and graduate training programs in the neurosciences, biomedical sciences, and systems biology.
